Lebanese Prime Minister Nohad Machnouk's visit to Baghdad comes within the framework of exploring ways to strengthen economic and developmental cooperation between Lebanon and Iraq, especially regarding the renewal of the agreement to supply Lebanon with Iraqi fuel used to operate power plants. The focus has been on developing the agreement to ensure the continuous supply of fuel to Lebanon, in addition to discussing regional transportation and connection projects that would enable Lebanese land corridors as additional routes from Baghdad towards the Mediterranean Sea. This aims to support oil exports, expand trade exchange, and increase investments between the two countries. Indications suggest that Iraq has supplied Lebanon with fuel since 2021, resulting in an extension of the quantities from one million to two million tons annually, with financial dues amounting to $2.7 billion owed by Lebanon. The visit is considered a strategic step to bolster economic and political cooperation between the two sides.
