Hani: Securing Agriculture and Market Access

Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani emphasized during his meetings with associations, unions, and production sectors in Lebanon that protecting domestic products and supporting the agricultural sector are priorities for the Ministry of Agriculture. He explained that the ministry is working to enhance national production by organizing markets, supporting farmers, and increasing the competitiveness of local products—particularly in the wine sector, which faces challenges due to increased grape production and competition from imports. He also highlighted the importance of opening external markets, especially in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, to export around 1,000 tons daily, as well as strengthening cooperation with Syria to ensure market stability. He emphasized the need to develop agricultural policies with the involvement of associations and unions and to restore the attractiveness of agricultural work for youth through the national strategy prepared for 2026-2035, aiming to create job opportunities and develop the sector sustainably.
