Lebanon partners with FBI on artifact recovery

Culture Minister Ghassan Salameh confirmed that Lebanon will receive from New York a collection of lead coffin fragments linked to the city of Tyre. These were discovered by Arte Primitivo and are being promoted through its illegal archaeological sales. He pointed out that these pieces, characterized by artistic and technical decorations typical of the Tyre coffin workshops, date back to ancient times and resemble models found in a well-preserved Roman tomb in Dbeaal. He clarified that an investigation is underway in cooperation with the FBI to recover the smuggled artifacts from the region. He added that protecting cultural heritage and combating smuggling are national responsibilities, and the ministry will work to recover every piece that has been unlawfully exported.
