Lebanon Debates: Protecting Care Services

Social care institutions in Lebanon, contracted with the Ministry of Social Affairs, are facing significant financial pressures due to delays in their entitled payments. This situation threatens their ability to continue providing services to the most vulnerable populations. Minister Haneen Sabbagh held a meeting with representatives of these institutions, who confirmed that the accumulation of obligations and rising care costs pose a direct threat to their sustainability. This impacts thousands of families and households relying on their services, such as care for people with disabilities, orphans, and the elderly. It was agreed to follow up on this issue, with a plan to hold a meeting with Finance Minister Yasin Jaber to establish procedures to ensure the payments are made and services continue uninterrupted. Emphasis was placed on the fact that the crisis does not compromise the social protection of the most vulnerable groups.
