Washington sanctions network linked to Hamas

The United States has imposed sanctions on three individuals and two charitable organizations in France, accusing them of funding a network associated with the Palestinian Hamas movement. The Treasury Department clarified that the network collected more than two million dollars between 2020 and 2026, including 1.5 million dollars following Hamas's attack on Israel in October 2023, using charitable fronts and cryptocurrency sources to fund the group's activities. The sanctions target a Hamas member named Salim Abdullah Salim Zaq, who oversaw the funding, along with Fawzi Brika and Amal Walid, both linked to two French charitable organizations purportedly raising funds for humanitarian purposes in Gaza. This funding coincided with escalating attacks and crises in Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of over 70,000 people and widespread destruction, amid cautious international support for the Palestinian cause.
