Hezbollah and Damascus: Mutual Expectations
The article discusses Hezbollah's stance towards the new relationship with Syria, suggesting that the previous Syria is a thing of the past and that its current goal is to protect itself from military threats by preventing Syrian territory from becoming a platform or corridor for hostile groups, especially those that could be used by Israel against the party. It also emphasizes Damascus's desire to regain control over its lands without allowing untrustworthy actors, while working to strengthen its relations with the international community and limit Hezbollah's influence within its territory. An agreement between the two sides would require restricting Hezbollah's activities and safeguarding Lebanon's borders, maintaining the relationship within a framework of understanding rather than escalation, and considering mutual interests and geopolitical priorities.
