Egypt seeks new IMF funding

Egypt has confirmed its progress toward securing new funding of approximately $2.3 billion from the International Monetary Fund, following the completion of the latest review of its Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) programs, which are expected to conclude in December 2026. This review is being conducted concurrently with Egypt's efforts to implement economic reforms, aimed at supporting national economic stability and strengthening the private sector through accelerating the accumulation and divestment of state assets. This move is part of a broader funding package that includes the $8 billion Extended Fund Facility, along with $1.3 billion from the Resilience and Sustainability Facility, in light of the challenges resulting from the Israeli conflict in Gaza. Additionally, Egypt continues to prepare a future national economic plan based on the outcomes of previous reforms and Egypt’s Vision 2030, to sustain growth and resilience beyond the end of the IMF program.
