Protest in Rachmia Against School Closure

The residents and local figures of Rachmaya and the surrounding area demonstrated in protest against the decision of Minister of Education Rima Karamy to close the historic Maroun Aboud Secondary School in the town, which was established in 1913 and has graduated generations from the region. The protesters emphasized that the closure will lead to the displacement of students and a halt in education in the area. They called for stopping the merger with Aley Secondary School, proposing instead to transfer the French branch from Aley Secondary School to Rachmaya. Deputies, local figures, and residents explained that closing the school will cause deterioration in education quality and psychological stability among students. They reaffirmed their commitment to keeping the school as a fundamental educational pillar in the region. The school is considered a significant historic and educational symbol and has been supported by the Maronite Maronite Monks, including the installation of solar energy, despite financial pressures.
