Palestinian Council Elections Delay Opens Dialogue
The higher committee overseeing the Palestinian National Council elections in Lebanon postponed its scheduled meeting on October 4th, aiming to open a comprehensive national dialogue in Cairo under Egyptian auspices. This move seeks to support Palestinian unity and address the disagreements between Fatah and Hamas. The step is part of an initiative by the Popular Front to foster consensus and organize the Palestinian house, focusing on forming a consensus National Council that represents all Palestinian factions and on rebuilding the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The elections have been postponed to ensure the participation of all factions and to continue the national dialogue in order to reach an agreement that meets current challenges. The decision to delay was approved by both Fatah and Hamas, while the latter expressed hope that this step would serve to strengthen Palestinian national unity in Lebanon.
