Israeli officials: Co-pilot planned attack before hiring
The investigation reveals that a co-pilot aboard a Fly Dubai plane was planning to carry out a terrorist attack using an emergency axe before he was employed by the airline. He intended to crash the plane heading to Ben Gurion Airport in Israel; he had previously attempted to do so on a prior flight but backed down. The co-pilot, an Omani national, was planning to hijack and crash the aircraft, but he withdrew from his plan after learning there was someone on board he knew, according to investigators. Emirati authorities described the assault on the captain during the flight as a "terrorist act," while reports indicated that the co-pilot had an extremist ideological background and was planning to carry out an attack inside the plane. The investigation was halted after his plans were uncovered, and security agencies continue to investigate the motives behind the attack, amid efforts to review security procedures on flights to Israel.
