Threats to Southern Towns
The article discusses the United States' efforts to organize a new negotiation session between Lebanon and Israel in Tampa, Florida, in October, under American sponsorship. The goal is to discuss the implementation of the Framework Agreement and security arrangements in southern Lebanon. The dialogue focuses on activating the Israeli withdrawal from the testing areas, with the Lebanese side rejecting preconditions and emphasizing the need for the full implementation of the agreement. Israel bears responsibility for ongoing violations, while Hezbollah continues to refuse to surrender its weapons, complicating the implementation of the agreement and threatening stability in the south. This round of negotiations is part of a U.S. attempt to consolidate influence in the region, amid the risks of a potential Israeli military escalation in the south, especially before or after Israeli elections. The current situation leaves Lebanon in a state of stalemate, increasing its fragility, with military escalation threats that jeopardize the stability of the southern region.
