Unfulfilled Taif Reforms Remain Pending

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri expressed his rejection of the excessive use of the veto option in government work, emphasizing that national reforms should not be left pending, especially when a large part of them remain unimplemented, despite adherence to the Taif Agreement. He stressed the importance of separating political reform from restoring the state's authority and dismantling militias, reaffirming that Lebanon is an ultimate homeland for all its citizens and that it operates as a democratic parliamentary system based on the separation of powers and checks and balances. He viewed the continued paralysis of governmental work as a threat to the country's stability, noting the lack of clear accountability in implementing reforms, and called for all parties to agree on respecting the state's sovereignty and institutions to ensure Lebanon's continuity.
