Mamadani urges US to end support for Israel

The mayor of New York, Zahran Mamdani, called for ending U.S. support for Israel, as the third anniversary of the Gaza war is commemorated. He criticized Washington's complicity in arming Israel and urged the world to reject a continued occupation and apartheid. Mamdani emphasized that Palestinian suffering has persisted since the start of the aggression in October 2023, with at least 74,243 Palestinians killed in Gaza since then, as hostilities continued until the ceasefire in October 2025. Over 21,000 children are among the casualties. Meanwhile, the statement received critical reactions; some security and political organizations described it as a "moral failure," and called the accusation of genocide inaccurate. Israeli officials considered the mention of genocide as an attempt to politicize the anniversary. The United States continues to provide military aid to Israel, exceeding $25.5 billion since October 2023. This aid includes weapons and air defense systems, and American-made weapons have been used in attacks that resulted in civilian deaths in Gaza.
