Brazil students rally for Lula before runoff

Thousands of students and supporters of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva demonstrated in Rio de Janeiro in support of him ahead of the runoff presidential election scheduled for October 25. This came after the right-wing candidate, Jair Bolsonaro, led Lula in the first round with 47% of the vote compared to 45%. The protesters raised banners condemning the return of Bolsonaro's family to power and calling for democracy, while criticizing the policies of the former president, especially his management of the COVID-19 pandemic. These demonstrations come amid concerns over the increasing influence of the right, as Lula seeks to win by gaining the votes of abstainers, who number around 33 million voters (21%). The election campaign is witnessing intense competition, with significant challenges ahead for Lula to secure another victory and determine the outcome.
