Brazilian Protesters Oppose Bolsonaro Jr.

Thousands of people demonstrated in Rio de Janeiro to protest the potential return of the far-right, led by Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who topped the first round of the Brazilian presidential elections. The protesters chanted, "Bolsanaro will never return," and called for voting for the leftist candidate, Lula da Silva. The demonstrators expressed concerns over the rollback of rights and freedoms, especially in light of Flavio's plans for broad cuts in public spending and the re-establishment of right-wing control over the government, which has been criticized for its weak handling of the COVID-19 crisis. Their fears also extend to the impact this could have on democracy and civil rights in the country.
