Jaafari: Electricity crisis demands urgent action

The article focused on clarifying that Lebanon's electricity crisis is worsening and requires urgent, comprehensive decisions rather than just diagnosing the problem. Gebran Bassil stated that the issue is not limited to reduced power supply hours but stems from years of mismanagement of investment in the electricity sector, a significant financial deficit at Electricité du Liban, and rising fuel costs. He emphasized the importance of implementing reforms, particularly improving the sector's financial sustainability and launching investment projects to attract investors, while also increasing actual electricity consumption to reduce costs borne by households and institutions. He also pointed out that the rise in fuel prices has led to a decrease in electricity supply to 7-9 hours daily, and that implementing a dynamic tariff system based on production costs would aim to lower expenses and reduce dependence on private sector generators.
