Lula mobilizes supporters before Brazil runoff

Supporters of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva gathered on Copacabana beaches and along Paulista Avenue ahead of the runoff election on October 25, where he competes against the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, Flávio Bolsonaro. These movements came after the first-round results exceeded expectations in favor of the opposition candidate, prompting Lula's supporters to intensify their campaign to increase his chances of winning a fourth presidential term. Lula's campaign focuses on improving working conditions by supporting an increase in weekly rest days and reducing working hours from 44 to 40 hours, in response to a proposed austerity plan by his opponent, which he describes as "opportunistic." Lula aims to make labor conditions a central issue in the electoral contest, while Flávio Bolsonaro dismisses these proposals as damaging to workers' interests, amid rising political tensions ahead of the runoff.
