Lebanon braces for tense fortnight

Lebanese governmental sources confirmed to "Asharq Al-Awsat" that the government is taking the issue of controlling shipments of weapons and explosives seriously, and is fully implementing the decisions to combat smuggling and restrict weapons, in cooperation with the army and security forces without exception. While investigations are ongoing, there is no decisive evidence of preparations for any security operation or escalation, and security forces remain on high alert. The sources also express hope that the next two weeks will pass peacefully, amid anticipation of a phase that could bring developments related to the security situation, especially with the approaching Israeli elections.
