Efram and Atiya outline solar cost reduction plan

The article discusses a plan to reform Lebanon's electricity sector by enhancing production efficiency, reducing waste, and combating corruption, with a focus on developing renewable energy sources, especially solar power. Experts propose shifting from reliance on fuel oil to natural gas, which would save approximately $3 billion annually. Additionally, by leveraging excess solar energy—around 700 megawatts—there could be savings of about $120 million per year. The plan also emphasizes the importance of increasing transparency in data regarding production and fuel consumption, as well as activating oversight systems to ensure accountability of responsible officials. The recommendations include updating the legislative framework to effectively involve the private sector and achieving integrated management of the electricity sector away from crises, aiming to reduce costs and improve service quality.
