Britain releases hundreds early due to prison crisis

Approximately 650 prisoners have been released in England and Wales as part of the second phase of a government program to relieve overcrowding in prisons. However, this move has sparked controversy due to some of the released individuals returning to criminal activity, with two inmates being re- incarcerated after committing crimes just days after their release. Reports indicate that the prisons are overcrowded, and early releases are being carried out to make space for new detainees, despite criticisms that this leaves crime victims in fear. The government is working to provide 14,000 prison spaces, of which 3,300 have been created so far, aiming to strike a balance between safety, security, and reducing overcrowding.
