Israel may delay elections amid Lebanon Iran tensions

Security concerns in Israel are escalating as the scheduled parliamentary elections on October 27 draw near, due to warnings of potential attacks on civilians resulting from tensions along the Lebanon and Iran fronts. This is especially concerning amid ongoing uncertainty regarding developments in military situations. The government is preparing to extend the "Special Status in the Home Front" until November 3, which grants the military extraordinary powers such as issuing orders to stay in shelters and imposing restrictions on educational institutions, in an effort to protect civilians from potential security threats. However, postponing the elections requires complex constitutional procedures, as such a decision can only be made with a strong parliamentary majority. This remains uncertain, especially amid fears of military escalation and the possibility of military actions against Iran, amid rising discussions about the potential for limited or swift military strikes to reduce tensions.
