Judge Urges Riad Salameh to Remain Standing
The Beirut Criminal Court, headed by Judge Samir Akeiki, postponed the trial of former Banque Lebanon governor Riad Salameh and lawyer Marwan Isa Al-Khouri in the "Consulting Account" case to December 3rd. The trial of lawyer Michel Tohme was held in absentia, and he was declared a fugitive. Stringent security measures were implemented to prevent the filming of Salameh, who appeared alone in the defendant's box. Additionally, restrictions were imposed on journalists. Salameh's lawyer filed procedural objections based on a decision by the Constitutional Council that is believed to exempt him from certain charges. The court, however, rejected the objections raised by Al-Khouri and imposed a fine on him. This session occurs within the framework of judicial investigations into the "Consulting Account" case, with ongoing legal procedures and defenses related to the matter.
