Lebanon and US mark Masilaha Castle reopening

The Lebanese Ministry of Culture and the American Embassy in Beirut successfully preserved and restored the archaeological site of Qalaat Al-Masilèh as part of a four-year project funded with $210,000 from the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation. The project included the restoration and reinforcement of the fortress, preserving its architectural character, improving access roads, reactivating the historic mill, and creating a natural water reservoir. It also involved organizing workshops to train farmers in sustainable agricultural practices. The initiative aims to protect cultural heritage and strengthen national identity. The Minister of Culture emphasized the importance of safeguarding heritage to affirm the memory of the place and open horizons for the future, while the U.S. ambassador highlighted that preserving heritage reflects the strength of the relationship between Lebanon and the United States. He also mentioned that the United States will allocate $36,827 to invest in a Roman archaeological site in Shheem.
