Shepherd concludes visit to Holy Mount Athos

The Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Rai ended his spiritual visit to Mount Athos in Greece, where he met with monastery heads, visited the Simonos Petras Monastery established around 1100 years ago, and celebrated the millennium of its founding in 1963. The meetings addressed ecumenical relations, challenges faced by youth and families, and reviewed the history of Mount Athos as well as Emperor Theodosius's role in building Vatopedi Monastery and Qannoubine Monastery. The Patriarch expressed his admiration for the richness of the spiritual and cultural heritage of the mountain, emphasizing that its legacy reflects the religious heritage of Lebanon, albeit with a significant difference in life and development due to neglect and migration. He extended an invitation to the monastery heads to visit Lebanon, reaffirming his commitment to strengthen cooperation among churches. Discussions also covered ecumenical relations, the current situation in Lebanon, issues of migration, and engagement with other churches in Greece.
