Guatemala ex-AG murder reveal links to gangs

The former prosecutor and lawyer Juan Francisco Solorzano Foba, 43 years old, was killed in an armed attack in Guatemala City, where he was shot by four armed individuals while at a soccer field he used to frequent. Foba was known for exposing corruption cases and linking organized crime gangs to politicians. He was a former head of the Tax Administration Authority and investigated corruption and crime networks, including convicting the leader of the "MS-13" gang and revealing his political connections. The attack comes amid a surge in violence related to gangs, with both international and national calls for accountability. Two suspects have been detained in connection with the case, one of whom is a former soldier. Guatemalan President condemned the crime and called for the strictest penalties, while human rights organizations expressed appreciation for Foba's efforts in fighting crime.
