Pakistan halts Iran trade via border crossings

Pakistan has announced the suspension of cross-border trade activities through the Gabd Rimdan and Taftan border crossings with Iran due to security concerns and efforts to combat smuggling. This has resulted in the buildup of hundreds of trucks carrying essential goods, threatening to reduce fuel supplies and cause prices to rise locally. Iranian authorities attribute this interruption to temporary technical difficulties, while Pakistani officials confirm that this measure is necessary to improve security and administrative conditions at the border. They also stated that joint talks are underway to expedite the resumption of trade activities. The Gabd Rimdan crossing is considered strategic for liquefied natural gas transportation, with over 4,000 tons being transferred daily. With trade halted, there are concerns that this could lead to fuel shortages and increased prices in the Pakistani market.
