Lebanon Prisons Face Protests

Lebanese prisons, including Roumieh Central Prison, are experiencing widespread protests and anger among inmates due to the slow implementation of the general amnesty law and the ambiguity surrounding its application mechanisms. The prisoners’ families confirm that they have been waiting since the law took effect for their loved ones to be released, despite more than a month passing since the law was referred to the Constitutional Council. There is also a lack of a clear plan or announced procedures for its implementation. Additionally, the families complain about the lack of transparent information from the prison administration and are demanding the immediate announcement of the mechanisms and a faster release process, warning that tension will escalate if the delays continue.
