US Defense Secretary meets Netanyahu before Israel elections

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during an undisclosed visit to Israel ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections next week, with no official statement released regarding the topics discussed. This visit comes after former U.S. President Donald Trump's unequivocal support for Netanyahu, despite the current Vice President J.D. Vance not endorsing the Israeli candidate and affirming that he is not involved in Israeli elections. Polls indicate that Netanyahu's coalition may lose its parliamentary majority amid escalating political tensions as the first elections since the October 2023 attacks and the war in Gaza approach.
