U.S. Weapon Sparks Mexico Border Safety Concerns

The purpose of the article is to clarify the use of the active denial system known as the Hot Beam Weapon, aimed at monitoring the U.S.-Mexico border. The weapon is designed to produce a intense burning sensation that can deter migrants from crossing the border through an invisible beam that penetrates the skin, with an effective range of up to 1,000 meters. The article explains that the system is intended to be non-lethal, but it has caused second-degree burns in two previous incidents. The technology is currently being evaluated, but no official decision has yet been made to deploy it along the border, amid increasing concerns about its legal and ethical implications, as well as ongoing testing within the context of heightened border security efforts and modernization of border control technologies.
