City Contracts Face Tax Issues
The British Treasury has called for an investigation into the potential tax implications of Manchester City's conviction on financial misconduct charges spanning nine years. The allegations include revenues manipulation and cost reductions through fictitious deals between 2009 and 2018, a period during which the club won three Premier League titles. The sports sanctions, such as stripping titles and relegation, could extend to tax scrutiny, as tax authorities may review whether the club fulfilled its financial obligations during that period, including examining the former manager Roberto Mancini’s controversial contract. It is noted that the club has filed an appeal against the conviction, asserting legal errors and presenting evidence to support its position.
