Coco Gauff's Quiet Struggle

Reports highlighted that tennis player Coco Gauff was subjected to racist abuse after her loss at the China Open, leading her to shut down her phone and stay away from messages to confront online threats. Gauff explained that her day was exhausting, and the incident began during a match against a Chinese player when she was stopped due to an advertising board, which sparked controversy over the referee's decision. This escalated into racist attacks on social media platforms. The Women's Tennis Association confirmed its support for Gauff and her team’s efforts to monitor threats and provide assistance, emphasizing that racist abuse targets the player’s identity, not just a disagreement with a referee’s decision or her performance.
