The article examines the developments in Israel's participation in international sports competitions, particularly in football, amid the escalating political and ethical conflicts surrounding its practices in the Gaza Strip. The history began with its exclusion from the Asian Football Confederation in 1974 due to political boycott measures, followed by its official expulsion in 1976, which removed it from continental activities despite its formal membership in FIFA. Over the decades, Israel remained divided between attempts to rejoin the Asian Confederation and rejection by some countries, ultimately moving permanently to the European Union in 1994. Since then, its national team and clubs have regularly participated in competitions, despite political pressures and protests against its suspension from certain European tournaments and the ongoing boycott stemming from the war on Gaza. Sports confrontations now raise ethical and political issues, with increasing calls to suspend its international participation and a deteriorating image in the global public opinion. Meanwhile, debates continue over the legitimacy of the boycott and its political and sporting impacts.
