Somali judge Omar Artan aims for stability in Egypt

Somali referee Omar Arten, one of Africa's elite referees, expressed his desire to settle in Egypt and officiate in the Egyptian Premier League for the 2026-2027 season. He formally submitted an application to join the Egyptian refereeing system. The head of the referees committee at the Egyptian Football Association, Essam Abdel-Fattah, welcomed the idea, confirming that if the federation approves, Arten will join Egyptian referees. This comes after Arten faced a crisis when he was denied entry into the United States last June, despite having received an invitation to officiate a UEFA Super Cup match.
