There have been rare instances in football where players have scored more own goals than goals for their own teams during their careers, reflecting a painful paradox that sparks criticism and impacts match and tournament outcomes. Among the most notable of these players are Englishman Jamie Carragher, who scored 7 own goals compared to 4 goals for his team over more than 700 matches with Liverpool; Englishman Francis Binali, who scored one goal for himself against two own goals; Italian Ricardo Ferri, who scored 3 goals for himself versus 8 own goals; and Italian Luigi Zaniere, with 3 goals for himself compared to 6 own goals. Among foreign players, there is Sjaak Swart, who scored 5 goals for himself against 8 own goals, and is considered one of the prominent players for own goals in the Dutch league. These cases highlight that some players’ negative records become a technical paradox, with own goals constituting a significant part of their scoring tally. This draws attention to the danger of such moments, which can lead to losses or unexpected results.
