Legal expert disputes City appeal over forged documents
The article discusses the prospects of Manchester City appealing after being convicted of violating financial regulations between 2009 and 2018, by creating "simulated contracts" to funnel large sums into sponsorship deals amounting to £830 million. Legal analysis indicates that the club's chances of winning the appeal are slim due to significant legal hurdles, such as proving that the arrangements were lawful—especially given evidence suggesting document forgery and the committee's reliance on leaked messages from "Football Leaks." Additionally, City's defense argues that the payments were legitimately made by the UAE government, but the main obstacle is that Etihad Airways has confirmed they did not receive money in exchange for their sponsorship, which complicates the case further. Legal experts expect that the club's appeal will not be easy, with a waiting period that could extend several months before a final decision is made.
