The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced sanctions against Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egyptian national team, Ibrahim Hassan, the team manager, and Mustafa Zico, the player, due to their comments following Egypt's match against Argentina in the 2026 World Cup. The three will miss the two matches against Malawi in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as they are suspended for between 3 to 5 matches. The Egyptian Football Association will need to review the reasons behind the sanctions and consider appealing in accordance with the regulations. These disciplinary measures come as a result of accusations claiming that FIFA and the referees favored Argentina in the game, which Egypt lost 3-2.
