Ten Hag Opens Up on Ronaldo Clash

Eric ten Hag, the former Manchester United coach, revealed the tension in his relationship with star Cristiano Ronaldo during his second stint with the team from August 2021 to October 2024. He explained that Ronaldo let him down and showed a lack of commitment in training, noting that he did not complete one training session after the team’s 4-0 loss to Brentford in August 2022. His behavior negatively affected his teammates. He also indicated that ten Hag’s relationship with Ronaldo ended with his departure after the Portuguese star refused to accept his rightful place in the team. Ronaldo only started in four out of 14 matches in the 2022-2023 season before leaving the club in January 2023 following public disagreements, including an interview criticizing the club's management. Throughout his tenure as coach, ten Hag led the team in 128 matches, achieving 72 victories, and winning both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
