Maradona Trial Defense Seeks Expert Acquittal

The indictment of a medical team in the death of football legend Diego Maradona takes center stage in his recent court sessions, with the defense demanding the acquittal of psychiatrist Carlos Dias and psychologist Augustina Kosachov from the charges against them. The medical team faces allegations of negligence that led to the death after his passing in November 2020, when he died due to heart failure and severe pulmonary edema following brain surgery. Prosecutors differ on Dias’s responsibility, with some claiming he was merely a psychologist lacking the ability to prevent the death, while his defense insists that his role was limited and he was not responsible for Maradona’s overall health condition. The defense also requests the acquittal of Dr. Kosachov, explaining that her role was limited to monitoring medication treatment and that she did not receive all necessary information from the medical service company, which the prosecution has requested be sentenced to ten years in prison. The proceedings are expected to continue until Thursday, with a verdict anticipated later.
