Tennis Implements Stricter Steroid Rules

The International Tennis Integrity Agency has announced that it will implement stricter rules for players starting January 2027. Players listed in the "Registered Testing Pool" will lose previous exemptions that required them to specify a daily presence period for testing during tournaments. The agency plans to reduce the size of this pool to include around 80% of current players, with some allowed to skip the daily presence requirement, all in an effort to enhance the integrity of the sport. The adjustments also include more flexible regulations regarding doping test results related to unintentional contamination, and offer rehabilitation options for issues related to substance use not linked to performance enhancement. Testing requirements remain largely the same, and players face penalties of up to four years’ suspension if they refuse testing.
