Asian Confederation endorses Infantino

The Asian Football Confederation's stance towards Gianni Infantino, the President of the International Federation (FIFA), has shifted. The AFC President, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, announced his support for his re-election bid despite previous disagreements between them. This support comes as Infantino prepares for the upcoming elections scheduled for March 2024, in which he aims to secure a fourth term as president. The AFC, which comprises 47 member associations, plays a significant role in the election race, and Sheikh Salman has emphasized that the majority of members might support him, although some discussions are ongoing. This change in attitude follows Infantino's apology for past mistakes related to the World Cup organization plans and previous tensions in their relationship. It signals a positive development in their relations and reflects the AFC's commitment to backing FIFA's leadership in its upcoming endeavors.
