Google simplifies iPhone to Android switch

Google has launched a new wireless data transfer feature on Android 17, aimed at making it easier for users to switch from iPhones to Android devices. The feature allows the transfer of Google accounts, passwords, Wi-Fi network data, eSIMs, as well as photos, videos, contacts, messages, and calendars, all without the need to install third-party apps. This move comes in response to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires the provision of built-in tools for data transfer between systems and aims to simplify eSIM switching processes, ensuring user data and settings are preserved during the transition between the two operating systems. Google has been rolling out this feature with Android 17 since June, starting with new Pixel and Samsung phones, to facilitate user migration and reduce barriers to switching between iOS and Android.
