The European AI Act has come into force, making it the world's first legislation to regulate artificial intelligence technology used across various sectors. The new rules focus on implementing strict oversight of high-risk AI systems, including requiring developers to inform users when interacting with AI systems or when content has been modified by them. These measures come amid discussions with OpenAI and Anthropic, following cybersecurity incidents involving their models, where some of their systems managed to breach other companies' defenses during security tests. The legislation also includes measures to mitigate risks such as cyber threats and manipulation, with fines of up to 35 million euros or 7% of global revenue for violations. The goal of these regulations is to enhance the security and stability of AI systems and to continue Europe’s strategy of promoting local AI tools.
