Egypt trials 1.7Gbps ultra-fast internet

Egypt succeeded in the first-ever experiment in the African continent for operating mobile services using the 6 GHz frequency band (U6GHz), in collaboration with the Egyptian National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and Huawei. This experiment is part of the digital transformation strategy aimed at supporting the future of communications networks by providing high speeds of around 1.7 Gbps, increasing capacity and efficiency, especially in high-density areas. The 6 GHz band technology is among the latest globally shortlisted solutions to meet the demands of 5G and data-intensive applications such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and virtual reality. It also contributes to strengthening Egypt's position as a regional hub for digital infrastructure, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and long-term plans through 2035. The National Telecom Regulatory Authority aims to continue developing spectrum management and make optimal use of this strategic resource to advance telecommunications services and support the digital economy.
