Alphabet experiments with AI chips in space

Alphabet has launched its Google AI chips into low Earth orbit as part of an uncrewed space mission, under the Suncatcher project which aims to explore the use of solar-powered satellites to deploy infrastructure for machine learning in space. This experiment marks the first orbital test focused on the satellites' ability to generate energy equivalent to eight times what can be produced on Earth, with the goal of supporting AI applications in a more expansive and sustainable manner in space. Future plans include connecting constellations using high-speed optical links.
