Egypt's leading arms dealer falls

Egyptian security forces have managed to arrest one of the most dangerous arms dealers in Egypt and his son in the Sheikh Zayed area, during a campaign targeting their criminal activities involving the trafficking of firearms and drugs. The main suspect, originally from Assiut, had prior charges in 14 cases involving murder, theft, and possession of weapons, before he formed a gang with his son specializing in smuggling and selling firearms and drugs such as Captagon. Authorities seized approximately 34 million Egyptian pounds' worth of equipment. The confiscated items included two "Grenov" machine guns, four automatic rifles, ten shotguns, 350 various rounds of ammunition, as well as 25,000 drug tablets, 50 kilograms of powder possibly used in drug manufacturing, and manufacturing tools. This operation is part of the Ministry of Interior’s efforts to combat illegal arms and drug trafficking, curb criminal gang activities, and disrupt their operations. The suspects face various charges and have been referred for investigation.
