ISIS Resurfaces with Police Attack in Iraq

During an attack by members of the Islamic State (ISIS) on a Federal Police position southwest of Kirkuk, one officer was killed and four others were injured. The assault involved the use of machine guns and snipers. It is believed that ISIS attackers are still active in the area despite their diminished influence following their defeat. This was the first attack of its kind since the withdrawal of American forces on September 30th. Sources expect ISIS to remain dormant in secret cells, raising concerns about a potential resurgence of activity amid the security vacuum created by the withdrawal. Iraqi forces are now solely responsible for maintaining security, with warnings of the group possibly reorganizing itself.
