Agricultural Union Holds National Dates Seminar

On October 8, 2026, the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries organized the first national conference on "Tunisian Dates: Between Cost Challenges, Successful Season, and Market Stakes" in Tozeur. The conference aims to discuss the sector's challenges, especially the rising cost of production, and explore ways to develop marketing, storage, and ensure success for the new season. Although production reached a record level of 404,000 tons during the 2025-2026 season, and export revenues exceeded one billion dinars, the sector faces structural and logistical challenges, most notably rising costs and the impact of climate change. Participants are working to address these issues to ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of the sector. The Tunisian date industry covers a vast agricultural area estimated at 60.8 thousand hectares, mainly concentrated in the provinces of Kebili, Tozeur, Gafsa, and Gabès.
