Tunisia has announced the completion of more than 400 commercial transactions over the past two years under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, following the issuance of the first Certificate of Origin in May 2023. The Minister of Trade and Export Development, Samir Obeid, confirmed that Tunisia aims to expand the use of the agreement’s mechanisms and to strengthen regional trade and investment flows, emphasizing the role of the private sector as a primary beneficiary and execution partner. He explained that Tunisia is working to involve the private sector in monitoring and implementing the agreement, listening to the challenges faced by exporters and suppliers to improve market access across Africa, with a focus on streamlining procedures and facilitating trade between African countries. Furthermore, the initiatives aim to enhance economic cooperation between Tunisia and other African nations, transforming the region into a more interconnected and dynamic trade space through organizing meetings and trade events that include the private sector as well as small and medium-sized enterprises. The goal is to build sustainable partnerships and investment relationships.
