Tunisia Rice Stocks and Supply Issues

Tunisia is experiencing a crisis in delivering rice to consumers, despite large quantities being available in storage. The problem lies in the ability of the Trade Agency to package and package these quantities quickly enough. The ministry announced that approximately 7,000 tons of bulk rice are available, and that more than 100 tons will be pumped into the markets daily, with efforts underway to lower prices. However, the current packaging capacity, estimated at around 40 tons per day, is insufficient to accelerate distribution. Therefore, an international tender has been launched to procure packaging services for 6,000 tons of rice, aiming to improve the distribution pace, relying on external services to speed up production—even though the Trade Agency had already begun developing its capabilities in this area. The solution lies in increasing the packaging system's capacity to facilitate faster access to rice for consumers and to prevent the stored quantities from becoming unused stock due to limited packaging and distribution capabilities.
