UN Warns of Famine Risk in Sudan

United Nations experts have reported that the risk of famine is significantly increasing in multiple regions of Sudan due to ongoing war, with the situation further deteriorating as a result of a drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon. They confirmed that most areas vulnerable to famine are facing escalating threats, especially in Darfur, where water shortages and declining crops have worsened, leading residents to heavily rely on markets and stored food. Health organizations have also noted that limited healthcare access and scarce drinking water heighten the risk of death and disease among the population, urging an end to fighting, the expansion of humanitarian aid, and long-term funding to save the food and health situation in Sudan.
